byDESIGN Group is a collection of companies specialising in the architectural design of lodges and camps and the production of fabric structures.

The companies were founded and are directed by Jan Allan. Jan has over two decades of experience working in this field and delivering projects that tread lightly on some of our planets most beautiful eco-systems.

The two sister companies are managed from our office in Nairobi.  Having both companies allows us to provide interested clients with a one-stop-shop from conceptual designs, to detailed architectural plans to fabricating and installing high quality tent and tensile membrane structures. 

byDESIGN is our Architectural design company where we specialise in the design of unusual and original safari lodges and camps. 

Canvas byDESIGN is our production company that specialises in the production of original, well-detailed and high-end quality fabric structures. 

Our companies have been instrumental as consultants, suppliers and active team members in the delivery of over twenty five tourism based projects within Africa and India. Several of our projects have been published and awarded in Conde Nast Traveller, Architectural Digest, National Geographic and other well known travel and design publications.
